How easy is Loopmasters Khords to install?

In a word, it is simple to install. A straight up exe file on Windows 10, with a “just click next” type install. From there the program will be installed.

Then all you need to do is open your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and let it find the plugin. This is simple in Bitwig Studio as it will search for any new plugins and add them accordingly.

So how does Khords perform?

Taking stock of this virtual instrument, we can see it is of familiar format to most virtual instruments. Everything is in the places you would expect to find them. Presets are found at the top, then the Chord Layer, and then the Note Layer.

The two layers have a range of controls which are both the same in each section. So these feature a filter, envelope and LFO.

In addition to this there is a wicked little stretch tool which some chaotic sounds can be created in. Both the Note and the Chord layers have the ability to adjust the levels and so this makes mixing between them really simple.

Options to transpose notes and chords (or both with Master) are also available in the section between the two.

Tinkle those ivories

No midi keyboard to hand? No problems. I found the Small/Full function to be very useful. Small is selected by default however on pressing Full, the Keyboard is displayed along with a number of other settings.

I must admit this wasn’t great on a laptop screen as the bottom of the keyboard cut off and there was no way to scroll. A feature I’m hoping will be rectified in upcoming versions.

The ability to alter between effects during this bottom section is very simple however. We can switch between different routing patters and this has benefits when experimenting with different sounds.

Competition with other virtual instruments?

So how does this compete with other synths. There are a number of features in this which appear in other synths. However this combines those features from all others I know about in to one which is exactly where it wins.

  • Transpose notes – Scaler 2
  • Mix synth effects – Massive / Massive X
  • Multiple patches – All the Air products
  • Re-route effects – Repro / Diva

So as we can see, plenty of the best of the features of all quality synths and utilities rolled in to one virtual instrument for under £50. This is why it gets my vote, and a solid 5 star review.
